Leeds Music History

In Leeds for August? Check out the Leeds Music History exhibition at Leeds Town Hall Crypt. You'll find artefacts from Carl and Will's personal collections of CUD memorabilia on display amongst various items chronicling the fine musical legacy of our adopted city.

Behind the Wall
Aug 8 2011
30 November 1989. CUD''s first tour outside the UK, and behind the Berlin Wall as it began to tumble. This backstage shot from Lomsa, Poland came through email this month courtesy Robert Bukowski. Cheers for the peek at the past.

22 months on from retirement, CUD stormed back to the stage at the Hootananny for the first of two London shows and the much-delayed single.

Not sure the group decision to bear moustaches was a good decision but coming back surely was.

See you again on the 20th!

Thanks to Andy Stewart for the pix.

Gig update

Jan 15 2010

Update: Planned three Brixton gigs are now streamlined to two, through no fault of our own. We are now playing the 6th and 20th of March only. Tickets available through the Hootananny. But, seeing as we're rehearsed, we might as well fill our time. Look forward to imminent announcements of other gigs, including one further north in a city we cannot ignore.

CUD back in 2010

Dec 14 2009

OK. Enough teasers. When we played our 'last ever' show in May 2008, did anyone seriously think we were retiring to our allotments permanently?
I am happy to announce that CUD – that's Carl, Steve, Felix and Will – are returning in March 2010 for a residency of sorts at London's Hootananny Club in Brixton. We're playing three consecutive Saturdays – the 6th, 13th and 20th (at 9.30pm each night).

Tickets go on sale from the usual suspects, or from the venue on 19th Dec, the perfect Christmas present for the Space CUDet in your life.

Will on Twitter

Dec 14 2009

Will Potter's been using it to spread rumour and disinformation for a couple of weeks now. If you want to catch up with CUD gossip and other musings from backstage in CUD's bass player's brain, head to Twitter and follow @willgsptweets

Kats Karavan

Nov 7 2009

If it hadn't been for John Peel, a CUD band post 1987 would have been very unlikely, and certainly less heard of. Being invited to record our first session in 1987 was a surprise and honour, as is being invited to be part of the new 4-CD collection, Kats Karavan –The History of John Peel on the Radio.
As you'd expect from an artifact attempting to replicate something of the great man's taste, the selection of bands is eclectic, and all the better for it. You won't find some of the bigger names that Peel 'discovered'. (The Smiths and Weddoes are noticeable for their absence) but it's a wonderful souvenir of 40 years of inspired music. Seek it out.

Wherefore art CUD?

Nov 7 2009

The CUD Band are still alive. Progress is slow on getting the tapes of the final CUD show edited and mixed, but it's not something we've given up on. We do hope to put it out one day, maybe on an anniversary. Should we ever put out the recording of our 'last-ever' show, it would be amusing to promote it with a serious of 'post-last-ever' gigs. 'Final: the sequel', anyone?
Will this happen? Dafter things have.

Congratulations!

Jun 24 2008

Congratulations to Mr Steve Goodwin on tieing the knot with Gabrielle this weekend. It was a very moving, musical ceremony and party. We wish them all the best of peace and health for the future. X

The last CUD gig, pt 2

Jun 24 2008

There WAS a secret CUD reunion of sorts on the 7th of this month, for Steve Goodwin's 'Night of the Stag'. Steve and Felix's band, Mylexus, played at Hoxton's Foundry. Carl was invited to join them for a few covers, and William too for (unfortunately unrehearsed and tragic) versions of 'My Sweet Lord' and 'Between Clark and Hilldale'. OK, that's really it this time. Or is it?

Leggy MP3

Jun 24 2008

Leggy Mambo Gold Top Copy, Elvis Belt and a collection of rarities from the recent reissues are now available to download via itunes.

Live CD? DVD?

May 21 2008

Yes, Leeds and London were recorded for posterity. Over the coming weeks, we'll be listening to and mixing the live recordings and editing footage from several cameras for a potential live CD or DVD.
(So far - definitely worth releasing!)

The Final T-shirt!

May 21 2008

Thank you to everyone who came to the final gig in Leeds, packing the place out, pushing and shoving, singing and crying. We had a fantastic, unforgettable time. Will it be the last-ever CUD gig? Who knows.
You made it difficult to say goodbye forever.
For those of you disappointed to find we'd sold out of the final gig commemorative shirt, we've reprinted a limited run. Orders have already been taken but there are a few left. All shirts now JUST £12!
